This weekend I’ve been on a mission to avoid the germs which seem to have taken our house hostage. Both Ryan and Rory are made up with cold but so far I’m snot free. While it’s lovely to be able to breath through my nose, good health does come with it’s downfalls. With Ryan practically bed ridden (it’s statistically proven that colds effect men worse than women mainly due to the fact that their complete baboons who demand sympathy and are incapable of picking up their own snot rags) I’ve been on a one woman mission to get everything ready for our holiday next week!
My holiday may well be within touching distance but there’s still time for one more edition of New Blogger on the Block.
This series is all about showcasing the fantastic new talent on offer in the blogosphere. Each week I’ll be handing over the floor to my guest blogger as we get to know them a little better. This week it’s all about Nicky and Michelle from Mums Army.
Please take a minute to introduce yourself and your blog.
Hello there! We are Nicky and Michelle and we blog over on Mums Army. We are sisters with 8 children between us ranging from a 1 year old to a 17 year old so we blog about the good, the bad and the very ugly in the mad sleep deprived world of parenting. We are the first to admit that a lot of the time we have no idea what we are doing and tend to wing it on a few occasions as the blogging world is quite daunting when you are a newbie and learning the ropes, but everyone has been so friendly and welcoming that it has made it a whole lot easier to dip our toe into this new world.
What made you decide to start blogging?
We started our blog in January 2017 as a way to promote our first book called Rattles & Battles, which tells the story about what it can be like when you become a first time mum, not all the good stuff but the other stuff people are not so quick to tell you about but the juicy things you really could do with knowing. With neither of us having much of a clue about most things social media before we started, it has certainly been a steep learning curve with setting up our website/blog and social media accounts and learning all about the ‘rules’ of play.
What’s your biggest blogging achievement so far?
Being featured bloggers in the linky’s we joined up with was a fantastic start for us, and being picked up on the Mumsnet Blog network was a huge boost. Also being asked to write blogs for other company websites has been a fantastic opportunity.
Is there a particular blogger who you look up to?
We are in total awe of Dawn from Rhyming with wine, and kind of want to be her best friends (too much?) her rhymes are funny, inspired and thought provoking and we enjoy reading everything she does.
Which one of your posts are you most proud of?
I’m going to jump in here on a personal level as I have known my sister Michelle for 38 years I guess (who’s counting) and for about 10 of those years we shared a bedroom so you could say we were pretty close, however during this process of starting our own blog we have become a lot closer and I have learned things about how she truly felt when she miscarried and then became a parent, to when her marriage broke down, to how she felt about becoming a step-parent and having another child with a different partner and struggling with a blended family all through our discussions around our blog and what we plan to write about. So I am proud of her very first post Back to Black.
Where do you see your blog in 5 years?
Hopefully in 5 years time ‘Mums Army’ will be big enough to rival ‘Dads army’ and we can join forces to make sure when that when that first baby comes we Don’t Panic!!!!
Random Question – What came first, chicken or the egg?
100% the Egg, the chicken is knackered and in her leggings most days snacking on the party size bag of buttons from the kids treat box trying to watch an episode of Love Island without being interrupted because her 3yr old egg (son) needs a poo, so she definitely never comes first.
Nicky and Michelle make me want to call my mum and demand a sister! They are literally amazing. I can only imagine how wonderful it must be to share your passion with someone you love so much. There’s not much I don’t adore about this gorgeous pair. Talented authors and now celebrated bloggers. With eight kids between them they’ll never be short of writing material, that’s for sure.
If you do one thing this week, make sure you head across to Mum’s Army and check out a few of their recent posts are you a subconscious mum?, the best and the worst of times or fifty shades of mum.
Fancy appearing in the next instalment? I’d love to hear from you!
If you’ve got a sec, please leave us a comment because we’d love to know what you thought!
