Welcome back to the second week of New Blogger on the Block. If this is your first time joining us then its brill to have you (catch up on last weeks post). Pull up a seat and make yourself at home.
This series will be all about showcasing the amazing new talent on offer in the blogosphere. Each week we’ll get to know my guest blogger a little better and give them the opportunity to share with us some of their posts. I hope you guys are ready because you’re in for a treat! Joining me this week is Jemma. Take it away lovely!
Please take a minute to introduce yourself and your blog.
My name is Jemma and I live in Northern Ireland with my long-suffering husband and 3 kids. My blog is Popcorn for Lunch, which is a light-hearted and funny (possibly only to me) parenting blog. I write about the ups and downs of motherhood and also create funny (again, probably only to me) parenting memes.
What made you decide to start blogging?
I love writing!!! I just love it! And being constantly sleep-deprived I find talking too fast a communication form for my brain to keep up so writing is the perfect outlet.
What’s your biggest blogging achievement so far?
Mumsnet featured my blog post on miscarriage on their bloggers network home page. I was chuffed about that, especially as getting the word out there that miscarriage is more common than people think really helps to take away some of the stigma surrounding it.
Is there a particular blogger who you look up to?
There are so many fantastic bloggers out there but a personal favourite of mine is a fellow newbie, Muffin Top Mummy. I love her style of writing and she has achieved so much in the short time she’s been blogging.
Which one of your posts are you most proud of?
I think the post I’m most proud of to date is A Grown Up’s View on Kids’ TV. It got a really good reaction from people and my husband actually laughed when he read it, which was a big achievement!
Where do you see your blog in 5 years?
I would love to really grow as a writer through my blog and use it as a platform to other writing opportunities. I would love it to have a big following in 5 years too, that would be the dream, knowing that loads of people love your work! Of course I would also love to monetise my blog, that’s obviously the ideal scenario, that I could actually earn an income from what I love doing so much!
Random Question – What came first, chicken or the egg?
How cruel is it to ask a sleep-deprived mum such a thought-provoking, philosophical question?! I can barely figure out which box is the Rice Krispies and which is the Weetabix in the mornings never mind work out an answer to this. I’m going to say that the chicken came first but don’t ask me why. If you check back with me in about 20 years from now when my kids have flown the nest and I’m lounging on a cruise ship in the Med, I might be able to formulate a more in-depth answer!
As I too am a mother with meal skipping tendencies I couldn’t wait to get stuck into Jemma’s blog. Although we’ve never met, I just know we’d have plenty to talk about over a chilled bottle of wine or two. Jemma’s recent post about the sorry state of her mom-mobile had me chuckling along in agreement. I’m ashamed to admit but the inside of my car is horrendous. If you decide to catch a ride you’re basically putting yourself at risk of catching the bubonic plague. At the very least you’ll come into contact with a partially digested rice cake. I know it’s gross but I’m just thankful it’s not just me.
If you’ve got a minute please pop across and check out some of Jemma’s other posts. I can personally recommend a short poem for my darling husband and miscarriage and me. Word of warning , bring tissues!
Shout out to Lucy. Theres some serious muffin top mummy appreciation going on at the moment. Obviously is well deserved, she’s fluffing fantastic!
Fancy appearing in the next instalment? I’d love to her from you!
If you’ve got a sec, please leave us a comment because we’d love to know what you thought!
