Guest Post – The Pregnancy Diaries week34

Week 34. Baby is a cantaloupe (must be a bigger one than in week 21!)

We had our last scan this week which I am sad about. I love being able to see the baby wriggling around but the midwives say things are going so well that we have no need for another scan. Obviously this is something which I can only be happy about! Baby is measuring slightly above average so they predict at least an 8lb baby. Thomas was 8lb 9.5oz anything less would make me happy!

When we met with the consultant she finally had my birth notes from Jessops in her hand. It was a huge relief after the weeks of trying to get hold of them. I wanted to hear exactly what had happened when I had Thomas as I didn’t want the same experience for this baby. With 10 years lapsing and never receiving a debrief, the whole thing is a blur to me.

Hearing the details was quite harrowing and I did get upset. It was actually horrible. As harsh as it was, it did me good to hear it though. The consultant said there were things that could have been done differently and that they would make sure I was not in the same situation again. She has given me 2 weeks to have a think about what I would like to do and that a planned c-section is available if I want it. I still have a lot to think about. Although at least now I feel like I can see a plan being made.

Project relaxation is going well. Second weekend away was to Shrigley hall hotel and spa. This was my birthday present for Paul. He booked it just before Christmas and we timed it to be our last weekend away together before all sleepless nights and dirty nappies arrive. Thomas had a whole weekend with my mum and dad, time that means a lot to him.

The place was set in beautiful countryside within a golf course, so you had a real sense of peace there. It was snowing as well so looked amazing and we had a little walk around to take it all in. With no moats to get lost in, just fields and a cosy bar.

The room was amazing with a 4 poster bed, a first for me! I felt very regal!
After a disco nap and a gorgeous meal we both nodded off watching a film. We’re so rock and roll these days! ? All I want to do is eat ice cubes and sleep!

Sunday after a breakfast that could have fed about 10 people, we headed to the spa. I haven’t been swimming much while being pregnant. Mainly worried that someone will throw in a harpoon after me! However this was THE best feeling ever. For the first time in months I didn’t feel like I weighed a tonne. I loved floating around and letting my legs and hips have a rest from the heaviness of the bump. After my swim I had a back massage. It was a little different to previous massages as I had to lay on my side. Due to the half time flip over I felt a little like I was a sausage on a grill. But my god it was bloody incredible! I was trying so hard not to fall asleep but I woke myself up snoring so clearly I failed.

My body had no idea what was going! I’ve never I felt so relaxed.

We had a little walk around Bakewell on the way home. It rained the whole day but it was so nice I could ignore it. We loved our little weekend so much and both feel so ready now for the baby to arrive.

All 3 of us are off this week which has never happened unless we’ve been going off on a holiday. It’s important for us to spend this time with Thomas and plan to make him feel as special as we can. It’s also a great time for us to catch up with friends and family.

So far we have been out with friends of mine and their kids. Thomas has shown how much he is going to ace being a big brother when helping with the little ones.

After this week I have 2 weeks left to work and I am increasingly ready for the finish line. This week off is only going to make me realise this more but I still feel anxious to go on leave. Just hope baby S doesn’t make me wait too long!
