Let’s talk about the Mommy pooch. Where once you gazed upon washboard abs, now sits a stubborn mound of gelatinous fat. High wasted jeans and control pants dominate your wardrobe. You try to eat healthy but struggle to find the time to exercise. Whether you’re a stay at home mom or a working mom, it’s something which we can all relate to.
Since having Rory I’ve been fortunate enough to lose the majority of my baby weight with little effort. Taking care of a mischievous little boy has left me with less time to think about food and even less time to think about exercise. At nearly 12 months postpartum I’m back to my pre-baby weight, although this hasn’t helped rid me of my mummy tummy! Disappointing as this may be it isn’t surprising. In the past year I’ve struggled to find any time to exercise. With Rory now a little older, I think it’s the right time to reintroduce exercise into my routine.
Sounds easy, however taking into consideration my impending return to work, I’m struggling to deal with the anxiety of leaving him. The last thing I want to do is fork out good money on an overpriced gym membership, only to be served a humongous dollop of mom guilt upon my first visit! So you can imagine my delight when Matt at Flex TV sent me the answer to all my prayers!
Think of it like Netflix but with exercise classes. Less of the chill and more of the sweat!
Flex TV enables members to take part in live exercise classes from the comfort of their own home. From yoga and Pilates to boot camps and full body work outs, there’s a class suitable for everyone.
Upon signing up (which was very straight forward) I was extremely impressed with the design of the site. After selecting the type of classes that were of interest to me, I was able to see which ones were starting soon along with my future recommendations. I was also able to select the times of day in which I’m most likely to join classes. For me this meant I could choose the times when Rory usually takes a nap or after his bedtime.
One function which I found especially impressive was the calendar. It enables you to view the classes taking place throughout the day, including ones within your pre-selected workout times. There is a wide selection of classes which you can join, even some in the early hours. Joining a class is easy. You simply select that time you want to work out, find a class you like the look of and hit join. The class then appears in your calendar, you also have the option of receiving reminders via email. Something which I’m sure is helpful if you’re scheduling classes in advance.
The class I decided to try was Mamas Tones Tummy & Trimmer Waistline. It’s a 30 minute class which is specifically for moms and those troublesome tums! When it’s time for the class to begin you simply click the event in your calendar and the live video stream begins. I chose to stream the class via my laptop but you can use any device which connects to the internet.
So, what was my verdict on the class? Well I’m glad Ryan wasn’t home to witness it! After a year out its safe to say I’ve lost my rhythm but boy did it feel good! I won’t lie, I was exhausted when the 30 minutes were up but it was the perfect way to kick start my new exercise routine. The work out hit the spot without been too hard core. I think it would be ideal for moms who are just getting back into exercise or those giving it a go for the first time.
In my time, I’ve tried plenty of celebrity endorsed fitness DVD’s. They get boring and become repetitive. One of the great things about Flex TV is the wide verity of classes available to members. For £4.99 per month you can get access to 300 classes a day. These are workouts which will easily fit into your busy schedule, guilt free and without the need of a babysitter.
Now I’ve broken my exercise fast, I can wait to try out some HIIT classes and hopefully get my mom bod ready for summer!
If you head over to Flex TV you can give it try FREE for 30 days!
