Guest Post: Five Ways to Get Yourself in the Christmas Mood

Getting in the Christmas mood isn’t difficult, you just need to take no more than five easy steps and you’ll get there. Get ready to feel festive! When you love the holiday season it’s hard to resist getting in the festive mood even a month ahead. You shouldn’t resist that urge, but grab all the joy you can get, for as long as you can have it. Even if you’re not big on holidays, deep inside you know you’re missing out, so this list goes for you too. Getting in the Christmas mood isn’t difficult, not even a bit; you just need to take no more than five easy steps and you’ll get there, so stay tuned and let the spirit sneak in.

Read!

One of the most magical activities to entice the Christmas spirit is to get the entire family together, wrapped up in blankets and read a good old Christmas book out loud. Classics are the absolute best choice, something along the lines A Christmas Carol, or The Little Women, although if you have a family favorite already that will work too. Not only do all the blankets, the warmth and the reading bring a certain ‘silent night, Holy night vibe’ but they actually serve to strengthen family bonds and make you feel appreciative of all the blessings in your life, and that’s what Christmas is all about.

Crank up the tunes

Nothing says that the holidays are here quite as loudly as the sound of your favorite tunes. When the kids are around, go with classic carols again, but when you’re alone, don’t be afraid of turning up the volume and playing Last Christmas or the entire Christmas collection by Mariah Carey. Engage the family in an impromptu dance party, even during breakfast. Bring the joy to you, every day!

All those wonderful smells

Tunes and books are both wonderful, but in order to truly bring the spirit of festivities to you, you absolutely need those staple holiday smells. Stock up on cinnamon, ginger, those wonderful winter tea mixes, marshmallows, chocolate – bring in the entire Christmas gang. Surround yourself with cinnamon and vanilla scented candles, and let the air be filled with all the signature scents that will make your heart jump for joy. Bake chocolate chip cookies, build a ginger cake. You can be like the cooking Santa and your kids can be your little helpers, and that way, again, the entire family gets a slice of the pre-holiday fun.

Start shopping

You know there is absolutely nothing worse than shopping for present close to the holidays. The crowds, the lines, it virtually kills the spirit because you come home tired and often frustrated. To avoid that from happening, try stretching out the shopping process and buy one gift every time you head to the stores. The joy of purchasing a single gift is tremendous, and that way you get to experience it every couple of days. If you have a baby, simply snuggle them up with you in your super-practical baby carrier and increase the fun by shopping and spending time with your baby at the same time. It leaves your hands free for picking out the presents while still keeping your bundle of joy close to you.

By the time you’re done, there will be zero frustration, just pure happiness brought by the fact that you got everything on your list and all in good time.

Something just for you

One of the things one must absolutely love about the holidays is that all skin and body care stores come up with incredible Christmas collections. Now, you don’t have to get a gorgeous advent calendar by The Body Shop or Sephora – let your hubby get that for you as an actual present. Instead, head out to one of these stores, like Lush or Bath and Body Works and snag some of those amazing holiday-only bath bombs. This one is just for you, so create a gorgeous pumpkin spice bubble bath, relax, read a book and have a glass of wine. That will certainly get you in the mood.
