Confessions of a bad mommy #2

Forgive me parents for I have sinned…again!

It’s been a while since my last confessional and if I’m been honest I’ve been feeling a little smug. I’m not usually one to blow my own trumpet but I’ve been on top of my parenting game! Rory passed through his last leap with ease and has even developed an appetite for foods other than strawberry yogurt, the laundry has been addressed before it overflows the basket and I’ve even managed to reduce my alcohol consumption to every other day!

So as expected my fall from grace has been monumental!

On Tuesday my friend Helen and her little monkey Matthew came over for a play date. While the boys were playing I pulled out the big guns and brewed us a strong pot of Starbucks Colombian coffee. It went down a treat and kept us adequately energized until the boys got tired. After Helen and Matthew went home, the afternoon escaped me so the cafetiere remained un-cleaned on the kitchen side.

Once we’d eaten dinner Ryan set about washing the dishes including the now infamous cafetiere. Thinking the handle was wedged around the glass cylinder, he attempted to force it free by pushing it out with his thumb. And you guessed it, his thumb went straight through. Turns out he hasn’t cleaned many cafetiere’s in his time and this will surely to be his last.

After several hours in A&E it was confirmed that he had successfully severed his tendon along with two of his nerves. As suspected he needed surgery to repair the damage which took place on Saturday morning. He’s currently in a codeine coma and sporting a rather large pot but as far as we are aware everything went to plan.

With Ryan heavily medicated, Rory has spent quite a few nights at his Nanny and Grandad’s house. On the one evening he did stop at home I found him sat in his cot staring silently at the wall. No doubt wondering why he was in a strange bed or where his Nanny had gone!

As you can imagine I feel very guilty about Ryan’s dismembered thumb but I’m now also dealing with a massive bout of mom guilt! If only I would have used the Carte Noire!

Eeeeek… Oh no, that sounds very painful, and must have been a real shock. Wishing him a very speedy recovery! I don’t think you need to feel guilty though, it was the tiniest of chores that you forgot to do, and who would’ve thought it would have that outcome?! Maybe go back to drinking every night-look what happens when you don’t!!
